Hello! I'm Louie Earle, instructor here at Virginia Systema.

I'm a former United States Marine, and proudly served my country from 1994-2000. I have trained hard for more than 9 years in the martial arts, and continue to study, learn and grow. I have studied Systema since 2007, and in addition have put years of training into Jeet Kune Do, Kaizentao, and Taekwondo. I respect and honor these great schools, and owe an immense debt of gratitude to the talented teachers who have shared their knowledge with me.

Outside of martial arts, I have a wide range of interests. I hold two engineering degrees: a bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, and a Masters in Applied Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins. (When I say that we here at Virginia Systema take a scientific approach to understanding the human body, I'm not just throwing buzzwords around.) I am also a 2007 alumni of the Boulder Outdoor Survival School, the premier school in the US for primitive survival skills. There I learned to hike through 250 miles of desert in southern Utah with a knife, poncho, blanket, water bottle... and nothing else. More recently, I've become a participant in the International Defensive Pistol Association, and shoot whenever I can.

Above all else, I'm a firm believer that the human body is capable of suriving and adapting to extraordinary circumstances.
